Apple Watch Band Sizing and Compatibility Guide

First read the millimeter case size on the back of the Apple Watch or in its device information. Apple groups 38/40/41mm together and 42/44/45mm together; newer 46mm and 49mm Bands have additional cross-compatibility described by Apple. Then confirm the Band’s wrist-length range.

Start with case size, then wrist size

The millimeter number refers to the watch case, not the wrist. Connector fit and wrist-length fit are separate decisions. A Band can attach correctly yet still be too short or too long for a comfortable adjustment range.

Measure for everyday comfort

Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the wrist where the watch normally sits. Keep it close without pulling it tight. Compare that measurement with the product’s stated adjustment range, allowing for the case and your preferred fit.

Ultra compatibility deserves context

Apple states that the 49mm case can use compatible 44mm, 45mm and 46mm Bands. Apple also notes that some Bands designed for the Ultra family are intended for specific activities, while smaller compatible Bands may be better suited to casual everyday use. Match both connector fit and intended use.
